An unspoken point amount our relationship with animals is how choosing to exploit them and have them suffer for the various uses and parts of their bodies is actually very anti social. Each year there's billions of potential friends that are killed. You could have a connection, a positive interaction with them or at least be open to it by choosing not to exploit with the way you live your life.
